Jennie Viola Gibboney, 85 Edinburg- Jennie Viola Gibboney, 85, of 141 Baird Road, died Friday at her residence. Mrs. Gibboney was born May 27, 1919 in Struthers, a daughter of Dale and Jennie Myers Shaffer. She was raised in Struthers and moved to Edinburg in 1942. She was a 1938 graduate of Struthers High School and was a homemaker. For 10 years she was a waitress for the former Starlight Café in Poland. Mrs. Gibboney was a member of the Mahoning Presbyterian Church, the Dorcas Missionary, and the Puppet Ministry. For 17 years she was very active in the Girl Scouts and was instrumental in taking the troops to Europe. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 3538, the Moose Club, the City Bridge Club, and the Lowellville Bridge Club. Her husband G. Russell Gibboney whom she married October 17, 1938, died October 23, 1979. She leaves one daughter, Shirley (Walter) Bodine of Edinburg; a brother, Daniel (Judy) Gibboney of Pulaski; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, four sisters, Della Leaghty, Edna Smith, Lucille Pomeroy and Doris M. Deiley and two brothers, William and Dale Shaffer preceded her in death. Funeral services will be Monday, 11:00 a.m. at the Mahoning Presbyterian Church. Friends may call Sunday from 5-8 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers. Memorial contributions are to go to the Mahoning Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
