Poland - Jean E. Evans, 85 of Poland, formerly of Struthers, died Sunday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Mrs. Evans was born February 18, 1925 in Struthers, a daughter of John and Mary Klucher Bolash. She was a life-long resident of Struthers until moving to Poland in 2006.
She was a 1942 graduate of Struthers High School and attended Youngstown State University. Mrs. Evans worked as a secretary for AETNA Standard and for Capital Airlines. In the early 70's she was a reading tutor for the Struthers City Schools. She was a member of the Wives of the United States Submarine Veterans of World War II and a member of the Sennet Reunion Group. Mrs. Evans was presently a volunteer at Sunrise Assisted Living in Poland, and a member of the Struthers Class of 1942 Reunion Committee. She was a former member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers.
Mrs. Evans was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling throughout the years with her husband and family. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Her husband William Evans, whom she married February 28, 1948, died January 5, 2008; she leaves four daughters, Gwyneth (John) Basista of Poland, Dr. Lynne (Dr. David) Cola of Akron, Megan (Brian) Martin of Youngstown, and Kristine (Atty. Anthony) Siciliano of New Middletown; one sister, Olga Lacey of Commerce, Georgia; one brother, William Bolash of Chicago; and eleven grandchildren, Douglas Basista, Kate Basista, Matthew Basista, Kristin Cola, Heather Cola, Bonnie Cola, Cindy Martin, Jeffrey Martin, Vincent Siciliano, Nicole Siciliano, and Anthony Siciliano.
Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela Evans Spencer; two sisters, Mary Burns and Veronica Jessey; and four brothers, Stephen, John, Aldrich, and Cyril Bolash.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church with Father Bernard Bonnot officiating.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland.
