Struthers - Janis Law Pearch Pontikos, 47, died Thursday, December 15, 2011.
Mrs. Pontikos was born November 12, 1964 in Youngstown, a daughter of William and Ruth Law Pearch.
She was a 1983 graduate of Chaney High School, where she was a member of the volleyball and track teams, and was editor of the yearbook. Janis worked as a case manager for Mahoning County Child Support Enforcement for eleven years and she was currently working at the Central Branch of the Youngstown YMCA.
She was a member of Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church in Campbell. Janis was a very active member of the YMCA, where she enjoyed working out, participating in their Community Cup and Spinathons, and spent countless volunteer hours fundraising for the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.
Janis will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and wonderful sense of humor.
She leaves her husband, John M. Pontikos, whom she married March 4, 2000; three sisters, Norma Vadjunec of Youngstown, Ruth Pearch of Youngstown, and Judy (Jon) Schmied of Austintown; brother, Jeff (Patty) Pearch of Youngstown; stepdaughter, Annissa Pontikos of Struthers; sister-in-law, Eugenia (Nicholas) Pontikos of Canfield; brother-in-law, George (Betty) Pontikos of Vienna; five nieces and six nephews, whom she loved very dearly, Kathleen Lott of Phoenix, AZ, Betsy Pearch of Dallas, TX, Sarah and Rachel Pearch of Youngstown, Joshua Pearch of Youngstown, Zachary Pearch of Arlington, TX, Matt (Krista) Schmied of Boardman, Ben Pearch of Youngstown, Mike Schmied of Youngstown, and Billy Schmied of Austintown; and her beloved cat, Wilson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Gary Pearch; and two brothers-in-law, William Vadjunec and Gus Pontikos.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers. Interment will take place at Belmont Park Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
