Struthers- Janice R. Sontag, 61, died early Tuesday morning, July 23, 2013 at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center after a long illness.
Mrs. Sontag was born May 1, 1952 in Youngstown, a daughter of Raymond and Dorothy Hamilton Piper.
Jan attended Poland Seminary High School. She first worked for Cornersburg Pizza /Pizza and Sons in Struthers, then for King's Bakery, and most recently in the bakery at Giant Eagle on Doral Drive in Boardman.
In her spare time, she enjoyed baking, crocheting, and was an avid bingo player.
She is survived by her former husband, Jeffrey Sontag, of Poland; four children, Jason Sontag of Poland, Justin (Jodie) Sontag of Cuyahoga Falls, Jeffrey (Andrea) Sontag II of Brownlee Woods, and Jennifer Sontag of Struthers; sister, Connie (Danny) Penwell of Lowellville; two brothers, David Piper of Boardman and Doug (Ro) Piper of Hixson, TN; and nine grandchildren, Kira, Kaley, Katelynn, Aidan, Vincent, Dominic, Isabella, Danika, and Delaney.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Cheryl Piper, and a brother, Raymond "Skip" Piper.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers. Family and friends will be received Thursday from 4-6:45 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service.
The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Janice's name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio 44512.
