Janet Shobar, 87 Poland- Janet Shobar, 87, of Pleasantview Nursing Home in Lisbon, formerly of Poland, died Wednesday afternoon at the nursing home. She was born in Struthers November 22, 1915, a daughter of Joseph and Johanna (Jennie) DeLost Kratofil . The family moved to Edinburg, Pennsylvania where she lived until she took a job in New York City. She returned to this area and married her husband, Joeseph Shobar, of 51 years, who died December 8, 1989. She and her husband owned and operated a grocery store âa�A"J & J Shobarsâa�A� on Logan Avenue in Youngstown before retiring in 1958 and then moving to Poland 1972. They were foster parents for many years for the Mahoning County Services. Mrs. Shobar was a 25+ year member of the Youngstown Chapter of Sweet Adelines Women Barbershop Chorus; bowled in the McGuffey Lanes grandmothers league, member of the American Croatian Citizens Club, Holy Family Seniors, a former member of the Holy Family Church Choir in Poland; and loved to care for the flowers around her home. She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Lewis, who was her caregiver and lived with her the past three years in Poland; a sister, Emilie Lorenz Barone of Girard; grandsons, Donald (Lina) Lewis of Canfield, Dan and Doug Lewis of Struthers, and Lorin Shobar of Liberty ; granddaughters, Denise Lewis (Dr. James) Collins of Phoenix, Arizona, Naomi Knepper of North Carolina, and Renee Jones of Girard; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her son, Leonard, who died July 26, 1967; three brothers, Sylvester, Joseph, and William Kratofil; four sisters, Lena Mattish, Mary Schlosser, Stephanie and Josephine Kratofil; and an infant sister. Funeral services will be Monday 9:30 AM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown. Friends may call Sunday from 4-7 PM at the funeral Home.
