James Brann Young

October 16, 1944 — July 7, 2018

Canfield

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Poland Presbyterian Church for James Brann Young. Brann was born in Youngstown, Ohio on October 16, 1944 and he died July 7, 2018 at the Cleveland Clinic. He remained in Ohio throughout his life, having graduated from Liberty High School in 1962 and Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1966. Following the completion of his formal education, he served in the Army National Guard.

Brann's unique career combined improbable longevity with a disciplined, yet gracious commitment to client service. Starting in 1966 at Butcher & Singer in Youngstown, he navigated often choppy economic waters and relentless cyclicality as a financial consultant and wealth advisor over a span of fifty continuous years, serving the wealth generation, management and protection needs of hundreds and hundreds of clients, most recently under the umbrella of Wells Fargo. His love for his job, guiding others featured a disciplined focus on his client's interests as he valued their success more than his own. He not only commanded the respect of so many who benefited from the "life made good" results of his efforts, but delivered his professional advice with a smile which conferred the title of friend along the way.

He is survived by his devoted wife of fifty years, Judith (Thew) Young whom he married in October of 1968; two children, daughter, Meredith Young Granitto (Matthew) of Cleveland, and his son, Jonathon Brann Young of Charlotte, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Granitto, Matthew James Granitto, and Lauren Christine Granitto, and a sister, Elizabeth Van Horn (James) of Appleton, Wisconsin. Extended family includes Judy's sister, Ginny Ten Eyck of Boardman, her brother, Timothy Thew (Janice) of Berkeley Heights, NJ, and many cousins throughout the United States.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Elizabeth Young and his brother, Peter McKelvey Young (Nancey).

Brann was extremely proud of his Scottish heritage and his service will be officiated by the Reverend Dr. Paul Anderson of Poland Presbyterian Church, who was born in Scotland.

Brann was an actively involved member of The Sons of the American Revolution and had served on several community boards including Ohio Living Foundation of Columbus.

He enjoyed a good round of golf, a good meal and a good book, shared in one way or another with each and every person he met in life, whether family, friend, client, or acquaintance.

Friends may call from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Wednesday prior to the service in the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests material contributions take the form of donations to the donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements are by the Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman.
