POLAND - James W. Williams, 81, died June 9, 2012, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Mr. Williams was born May 31, 1931, in Chicago, the son of Clifford and Dorothy Williams.
James graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 1949 and attended the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, leaving in 1952 for service in the Far East and Korea in the Army Corps of Engineers. After serving, he returned to finish his education at the Wharton School of Business.
James owned and operated the Sentinel Safety Supply Company of Boardman, distributors of safety equipment and supplies. James was the past president of the Safety Equipment Distributors Association and is listed in Who's Who in American Safety.
James was a elder of the Poland Presbyterian Church.
He was a member of Poland Lodge F&AM 766 and a 32nd degree Mason of the Valley of the Youngstown Scottish Rite. He also was a member of the Al Koran Shrine in Cleveland and was past Director of the Royal Order of Jesters, Cleveland Court No 14.
Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joanne K. Williams, whom he married June 25, 1960; four daughters, Cynthia (Russ) Macomber of Williamsburg, Va., Karen (James) Waters of Powell, Ohio, Holly (Kevin) Brady of Berlin Center, and Katharine (Brian) LaPorte of Rocky River; as well as 11 grandchildren. James is also survived by his brothers, David E. (Leslie) Williams of Petersburg and Paul J. (Maureen) Williams of Poland.
He was preceded in death by both his parents.
Friends may will be received Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland.
Private funeral services will be held on Tuesday.
