James Vincent Visingardi

March 23, 1927 — January 9, 2017

Poland - James Vincent Visingardi, 89, of Poland, died January 9, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family.

James was born March 23, 1927 in Oriolo, Italy, a son of Nicholas and Mary Bellotto Visingardi. At the age of 3, Jim and his family immigrated to Ellis Island and later to Youngstown.

A graduate of East High School, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Kittson during the occupation of Tokyo.

After the war, Jim returned to the area and worked at Republic Steel for over 43 years. He also worked for V&V Appliance Parts Inc., for 20 years and as a brick layer. He even built his family home in Poland.

Jim was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers, St. Anthony Society and the Arco Club on the East Side.

An amateur historian, Jim also was an avid gardener and had a passion for golf.

Jim was a devoted husband and father and always put family first. His happiest times were spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He never missed a sporting event, concert, or play and Sunday dinners with his family.

He leaves his wife of 67 years, the former Julie Quattro, whom he married July 3, 1948; two sons, James (Paula) Visingardi and Nicholas (Karen) Visingardi all of Poland; two daughters, Judy (Bruce) Lazar of Canfield and Janet (Frank) Ginnetti of Poland; eleven grandchildren, Laurie (Jeff) Dieter, Frank Ginnetti, Jennifer (Brett) Claxon, Jeana Visingardi, Bryan (Rachael) Visingardi, Krista (Vince) Antonucci, Victor Lazar, Ashley (Jason) Metze, Shelby Lazar, Jimmy Visingardi, Anthony Visingardi; seven great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Ella Dieter, Sofia and Angelo Antonucci, and Noah, Gia and Luca Claxon.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, George Visingard; and sister, Mary DeMarco.

A prayer services will be held Friday, 9:30 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral home in Poland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Martin Celuch officiating. Interment will follow at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.

Friends will be received Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
