Poland - James Calvin Stewart, 91, died March 4, 2017 at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House surrounded by his family.

Mr. Stewart was born September 1, 1925 in Poland, to James and Mable (Snyder) Stewart

in the farmhouse of the family dairy, Elmknoll Dairy, in Poland. He maintained the farmhouse his current residence.

James was a 1944 Poland Seminary High School graduate, where he played basketball.

He was an excavator and home builder partner with his brother Cloy as Stewart Brothers of Poland. They developed Elmknoll Heights in Poland.

James was a member of the Home Builders Association, where he served as President 1966-67.

He was also a member of the Poland Presbyterian Church since 1939 as well as the Poland Business Association, Poland Swim Club, and the Canfield Harness Horseman's Association.

Some of his favorite past times were going the Canfield Fair, bowling,watching Poland Sports, boating, water skiing and drag racing.

He is survived by his wife, the former Virginia Wichert, whom he married March 3, 1951; two sons, Jim (Barbara) Stewart of Lake Milton and Terry (Laurie) Stewart of Berlin Center; two grandchildren, Trevor Stewart and Troy (Amber) Stewart both of Poland; two great-grandchildren, Logan and Carolyn both of Salem; one brother, Cloy (Esther) Stewart of Poland; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by one sister, Luella Pearce.

Services will be held Wednesday at 6:00PM at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland.

Friends and family will be received from 4-5:45PM prior to the service.
