BOARDMAN-James F. Rogers, 84, died Saturday afternoon, November 2, 2013 at the Hospice House, surrounded by family.
Mr. Rogers was born March 1, 1929, in Youngstown, a son of Thomas and Arletta (Goodrich) Rogers.
A 1947 graduate of Boardman High School, Jim first worked as an electrician for Winkle Electric. He later was a partner for several years at Youngstown Electric until opening his own business, Mahoning Valley Electric Service, in the late 60's, operating the business until his retirement. After retirement, he worked for C&C Industrial as a salesman.
In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing in the Couples League at Salem Hills Golf Course and gardening. Jim especially loved raising dahlias.
He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Boardman and was previously very active in its choir.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Lorna M. Leichter, whom he married March 31, 1948; a son, John Rogers of New Fairfield, CT; four daughters, Virginia (Dale) McCaskey of Boardman, Susan (James) Maughan of Horseshoe Bay, TX, Kathleen Harris of Boardman, and Connie Alvarado of Scottdale, PA; sister, Faye Lyon of Tiffin; brother, Paul (Tyrene) Rogers of Poland; ten grandchildren, Marissa and Matthew Rogers, James (Karri) Webb, Jason (Julie) Webb, James Maughan Jr., Erin (Matthew) Bishop, Melissa Guice, Robert Maughan, John Harris, and Victor Alvarado; six great grandchildren, Logan and Skyler Webb, Parker and Aiden Webb, Dax and Calleigh Bishop.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jesse Harris; sister, Laurel Mills; and two brothers, Thomas and William Rogers.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 4-5:45 p.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market Street. A funeral service will follow on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
