St. Clairsville-James Hamilton Preston, DDS, 86, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Wheeling Medical Park in Wheeling, WV.
Dr. Preston was born April 29, 1929 in New Castle, PA, a son of Roy and Margaret Preston.
He was a 1947 graduate of New Castle High School, received a undergraduate degree from Washington and Jefferson College, and graduated with a degree in dentistry from the University of Pennsylvania. He served in the US Navy, stationed in Green Cove Springs, FL before returning to Poland, OH to set up his dental practice that spanned over 30 years. He retired in 1990.
Dr. Preston was a former member of Poland Bethel Friends Church, and enjoyed various hobbies including golf and gardening. After the death of his beloved wife, Patricia, he moved to St. Clairsville, OH until the time of his death.
He is survived by one daughter, Kimberlee (Howard) Thornton of St. Clairsville, OH; two sons, James H. (Wendy) Preston, Jr. of Gloucestshire, England and Jonathan "Kip" (Allison) Preston of Golden, Co.; eight grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Patricia R. Preston.
Family and friends will be received Thursday from 4-7pm at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland.
Services will be held Friday at 1pm at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Salem.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the American Diabetes Foundation.
