"Together Again"
Poland - James W. Modarelli, 93, of Poland, died January 4, 2010 at Sunrise Assisted Living.
Mr. Modarelli was born February 14, 1916 in Youngstown, a son of Anthony and Nicoletta Modarelli. He moved from Campbell to Poland 40 years ago.
Mr. Modarelli first worked as a crane operator for Youngstown Sheet and Tube and Truscon. He then owned and operated James' Beauty Shop for over 20 years.
After he retired from his beauty shop, Mr. Modarelli worked as head of maintenance for the Poland Junior High School. Because of his work at the school, he was used by God and played a part in bringing New Life Assembly of God to Poland. The church used the Poland Junior High School gymnasium and held services there for the first 2 1/2 years. A charter member of New Life Assembly of God, he was head usher and the custodian for the church until the age of 91. Prior to moving to Poland, he was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Youngstown and served there as an usher.
Mr. Modarelli enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, painting, crafting, golfing, and working around and decorating his home.
His wife, the former Lena L. Galluppi, whom he married July 6, 1940, died May 4, 2007. He leaves one son, James A. (Marie) Modarelli of Poland; three grandchildren, Lisa (John) Skoloda, Lori A. (Eric) Wilson, and Mark J. Modarelli; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Daniel Skoloda.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death two brothers, Frank and Louis; and two sisters, Kay and Mary.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. Interment will be at Lake Park Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
