Poland - James Michael McDonagh, 73, of Poland, and formerly of Lowellville, died April 23, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Mr. McDonagh was born March 26, 1937 in Youngstown, a son of Thomas and Anna Joyce McDonagh.
A 1956 graduate of Lowellville High School, Mr. McDonagh worked as an inspector for Valley Mold for 20 years and retired from Fagan's where he built housing materials.
Mr. McDonagh was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Lowellville and its Men's Club, the Knights of Columbus in Poland, and the American Legion Post No. 0247. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. One of his favorite interests was listening to Jazz music.
He leaves two sons, Michael (Jenn) McDonagh of Youngstown and Christopher McDonagh of Poland; two sisters, Mary Ellen Shutes of Liberty and Joyce (Warren) Smalley-McDonagh of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three brothers, Lawrence (Lee) McDonagh of Canton, Michigan, Dennis (Laurie) McDonagh of Jacksonville, Florida, and William (Karen) McDonagh of Hastings, Minnesota; a granddaughter, Taylor Meier; two brothers-in-law, Cornell (Karen) Bogdan of Hubbard and Charles (Tracy) Bogdan of Canton; a dear friend, Robert Leet of Youngstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas McDonagh who passed away in 2006 and infant Kevin McDonagh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville, where a prayer service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m.
Mr. McDonagh's family would like to thank the staff of the South Wing Orthopedic Floor of St. Elizabeth Medical Center and the end of life hospice care for their kindness and compassion.
