Youngstown - James E. Lorenzi, 94, died Monday afternoon, December 26, 2011 at his home.
Mr. Lorenzi was born October 23, 1917 in Conifer, Jefferson County, PA, a son of John J. and Maria Ghizzoni Lorenzi.
He was raised in Indiana County, PA and was a 1936 graduate of Elders Ridge Vocational High School, where he was captain of the basketball team his senior year. After graduation, his first job was working for the Company Store in Iselin, PA, where he would organize the first clerk's union. After marrying his wife, the former Pauline E. Braeseker, in 1941, he began working in the Coal Run Mines. While working for Omar Mine, he organized the union for the United Mine Workers and became President of the local union.
In 1953, he moved to Youngstown and began working for Bertollini Brothers Marble, Tile, and Terrazzo for over 25 years. While working for Bertollini Brothers, he was elected president of the Marble, Tile, and Terrazzo Workers Union, which is now part of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers. In 1982, he retired from Youngstown Sheet and Tube, where he worked in the coupling department for five years.
He was a member of St. Dominic Church. In his spare time, Mr. Lorenzi enjoyed hunting and bowling.
His wife, Pauline, died January 8, 1992. He is survived by his two sons, Edward Lorenzi and David (Sherry) Lorenzi, both of Youngstown; brother, Leo Lorenzi of Boardman; son-in-law, Constantine Joseph of Boardman; five grandchildren, Kenny (Sandy) Greco, David J., Jamie, Jim, and Matt Lorenzi; six great-grandchildren, Tim, Jasmine, Keile, Victoria, Jordyn, and Kenny; and one great-great-granddaughter, Isabella.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Carole Joseph; brother, Louis Lorenzi; and two sisters, Angelina Mayer and Elda Lorenzi.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, January 7th at 1 p.m. at St. Dominic Church, 77 E. Lucius Ave., Youngstown. A luncheon and fellowship will be provided after the Mass. Interment will take place at a later date at the Iselin Union Cemetery.
