James E. Laughner, Sr., -- 84 STRUTHERS âa�" James E. Laughner, Sr., 84, of Struthers, passed away Thursday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown. He was born April 13, 1923 in Struthers, the son of Robert N. and Mabel Vandine Laughner. Mr. Laughner was reared by his step-mother, Bird Laughner, and he was a life- long area resident. Mr. Laughner was a WWII Navy Veteran. He worked for Sharon Steel as a lineman and electrician for 37 years, retiring in 1978. He was one of the first volunteers for Hospice of Mahoning Valley, where he also served on the Board of Directors. Mr. Laughner coached little league baseball and softball, and he belonged to the Struthers Athletic Club. Mr. Laughner is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Nancy E. Campman, whom he married August 29, 1942; two daughters, Kimberly (John) Rivera and Lisa (Tom) Shook, both of Struthers; two sons, James (Janice) Laughner, Jr. of Warren, and Robert (Kathy) Laughner, Sr. of Austintown; four sisters, Ruth Thompson of Boardman, Virignia Baun of Salem, Eleanor Shaw of New Waterford, and Audrey (Howard) DeVall of Springboro; twelve grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Mr. Laughner was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Laughner, and one daughter, Judith Ann Laughner. There will be no calling hours or services.
