James F. Hryb, 73, died June 17, 2017 at Hospice House after a courageous 6-month battle with cancer.
Mr. Hryb was born March 9, 1944 in Youngstown, a son of George and Kathryne Terlesky Hryb.
He was a 1962 graduate of Chaney High School. Jim was a lineman at the car plant at General Motors for 36 years, retiring in 2006, and a member of the UAW Union #1112 for 35 years. He was also a member and board member at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Campbell, where he was also the groundskeeper.
Jim served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1962 to 1968.
He was a dedicated father and loving grandfather who attended all their sporting events, dance recitals, and school events. Jim was a servant at heart, having bought groceries not only for his family but widowers and neighbors.
His wife, Darlene Jane Hryb, whom he married Feb. 12, 1966, died March 27, 2016.
He is survived by two sons, Jimmy (Christine) Hryb of Poland and Ronald (Maria) Hryb of Poland; six grandchildren, Gabriella, Jacob, Gianna, Ronnie, Zachary, and Aidan; one sister, Irene (Joseph) O'Hara of Youngstown; and two brothers, Michael Hryb of Youngstown and Jerry Hryb of Youngtown.
Besides his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Pawlyshyn and Mary Hyrb; and one brother, Eugene Hryb.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 301 Struthers-Liberty Rd., Campbell. Interment will follow at St. John's Orthodox Cemetery.
Friends and family will be received today from 5-7 p.m. at the church, where a Parastas service will follow at 7 p.m.
Friends and family will also be received on Wednesday from 10-11a.m. at the church, prior to the service.
The family would like to thank the staff both at St. Elizabeth Boardman and the Hospice House for their care and compassion.
