POLAND - James K. Hinderliter Sr., 80, died Friday, July 6, 2012, at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House.
Mr. Hinderliter was born May 21, 1932, in Frostburg, Pa., a son of Kermit and Hazel Palmer Hinderliter.
He was a 1950 Punxsutawney High School graduate and went on to attend Youngstown College.
Mr. Hinderliter worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube (LTV) for 32 years, before retiring in 1982. He was a youth parochial football coach at St. Patrick's for many years and was a lifetime Pittsburgh Steelers fan. James enjoyed gardening, spending time in Las Vegas and Mountaineer Park, as well as traveling and visiting his grandchildren.
He was a Sergeant of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, where he received a Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star.
James is survived by his wife, the former Donna Mancini, whom he married Feb. 18, 1956 at St. Columbus Cathedral; three, children, Sheree (Larry) Banfield of Poland, James K. Hinderliter Jr. of San Jose, Calif., and Tim (Nancy) Hinderliter of St. Louis; three grandchildren, Joshua (Brenn) Hinderliter of Columbus, and Tyler and Emily Hinderliter, both of St. Louis; and one sister, Nedra (Dr. Edmundo) Singca of Towson, Md.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.
Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery with military honors.
Friends will be received Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and Tuesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m., prior to the services.
