Boardman - James William Halowell, 81, of Boardman, died Saturday evening, August 6, 2011 at his home.
Mr. Halowell was born January 12, 1930 in Struthers, a son of John and Mabel Shively Halowell.
He attended Struthers High School, until enlisting in the United States Army Air Force in 1946. Upon being honorably discharged, he returned to the area and received his high school diploma from South High School.
Mr. Halowell spent the majority of his career as a meat cutter. He first started working as a meat cutter for Loblaws in Canton and Youngstown, then Valu King in Boardman, before opening his own business, Halowell's Fresh Meats on Market Street in Boardman. He also worked a second job for the Conrail Railroad as a brakeman for many years in the evenings.
Mr. Halowell was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church, the Trinity Masonic Lodge in Canton and a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite, and the Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club.
Mr. Halowell is survived by his two sons, James (Lisa) Halowell of Boardman and John (Maria) Halowell of Maryland; brother, Charles Halowell of Canfield; sister, Nellie Mountz of Canfield; nine grandchildren, Taylor Halowell, Matthew, Nathan, Joshua, and Jacob Halowell, Elizabeth and Katherine Davis, and Christopher and Anthony Mendoza.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Davis and a brother, Edward Halowell.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Good Hope Lutheran Church, 98 Homestead Drive, Boardman. Interment will take place at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Mr. Halowell's name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Market St., Ohio 44512.
