James Graham Hale

August 19, 1927 — March 23, 2018

POLAND - Born Aug. 19, 1927 to James Alexander and Caroline Graham Hale, both originally of Youngstown, James Graham Hale grew up and attended school in Shaker Heights. He traveled to Youngstown as a boy to visit his family, including grandparents Albert Chapman and Martha Gaither Graham, of Mill Creek Drive, and Henry and Margaret Stuart Hale of Marion Avenue.

He, his father and both grandfathers were employed throughout their careers by the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company. After serving in the Navy and graduating from Mt. Union College in Alliance, “Jim” married Mary Delle Douglass, of Pittsburgh in 1954, and they started their family in Upper Arlington, near his job in the Columbus office of the Sheet & Tube.

The family moved to Upper Montclair, N.J., when he joined the Sheet & Tube’s New York office, and in 1966 Jim was transferred to the company’s main office in Youngstown. They moved to Poland, where they lived for nearly 50 years.

Jim was an active member of the Poland United Methodist Church, the Poland Swim Club, the Poland Municipal Forest, and he volunteered with the Mahoning County Meals On Wheels program.

He enjoyed convertibles, walking in Poland Woods, Handel’s ice cream, and working in the yard. He especially adored his six grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.

Jim died Friday, March 23, 2018. He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Mary Delle Hale of Granville; daughter Katherine (George) Hall of Poland and their children Sarah, Erik (Annie Lape) Hall (MacKenzie, Gabriella, and Giuliana), and Taylor; son James of Granville, and son Douglass (Catey) of Indianapolis and their children Graham, Alexandra, and Elizabeth.

The family will be holding a private memorial. They ask that donations be directed to the Poland United Methodist Memorial Fund, 1940 Boardman Poland Road, Poland OH 44514 or the Poland Municipal Forest Fund, Poland Village Hall, 308 S. Main St., Poland OH 44514.

Arrangements were handled by the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home.  Please visit www.beckerobits.com to send condolences.
