Boardman

James A. Gingrich, 84 of Boardman, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at his home following a courageous battle with kidney disease while at the same time having Parkinson's disease.

James "Jim" was born in Youngstown on January 29, 1930, the son of Irwin and Margaret (Mansfield) Gingrich. Jim attended South High School. He was then employed at McKelvey's Department Store in downtown Youngstown and went on to proudly serve in The United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Germany and it allowed him the opportunity to visit many countries while in Europe. Upon his return, he had a 31 year career at The General Electric Company on Hughes Street in Youngstown, retiring in 1985, when the plant closed.

From 1956 through 1962, he was a Youngstown Precinct Committeeman for the Democratic Party. He also served as Treasurer for Teen Challenge Ministry, in Youngstown, under the late Rev. Willie Duke. Jim was a long time member of Highway Tabernacle Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, enjoyed nature and was known for his kind heart, sense of humor and always having a smile on his face.

Jim leaves behind to cherish his precious memories, his wife Thelma (Griffith) Gingrich, to whom he married on July 16, 1955; a daughter, Marylou (Daniel) Burkholder of Boardman: a granddaughter, Danielle (George) Neil of Boardman: two sisters Kathleen (Richard) Heavener of Austintown and Norma Stein of Cortland; two brothers, William (Ann) Gingrich of Boardman and Richard (Sharon) Gingrich of New Middletown; a sister- in- law Florence Gingrich of Austintown, also numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth and brother- in- law Earl Stein.
