Mr. James Edward Fox passed away at his home with his loving daughters by his side on the Lord's day, February 22, 2015.
Jim was born August 25, 1922 at his grandparents' home in East Brady, Pennsylvania, the son of Burton and Dorothy Clark Fox.
He lived in East Brady until his family moved to Rimersburg, Pennsylvania where he graduated from Union High School, Class of 1940. After graduation, Jim worked in the coal mines, as did his father, a job that became even more important with the country's entrance into World War II.
Jim then enlisted in the Army and served in Panama. Upon his discharge he worked again in the coal mines, but moved to Youngstown in the early 1950's where he worked in the open hearth at the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company, Brier Hill Plant. Jim worked there for 28 years. When the plant closed, Jim's picture appeared on the national news and in the Youngstown Vindicator, showing him as he walked out of the plant on his last day.
Jim was always a hard worker and he felt his best when he was working whether at home taking care of the house or at the jobs he held throughout his life. After the mills closed, Jim was not through yet. He started working as a security guard for Mahoning Bank (Sky, Huntington) and retired, finally, at the young age of 82!
Jim took great pride in all that he did and felt that anything worth doing should be done right. He was well like and respected by everyone.
In May 1946, Jim met Mary Storkovich in Brady's Bend, Pennsylvania. After knowing each other for a long period of time, three weeks, they got married in Greensboro, North Carolina, where Jim was stationed at the time. Jim and Mary were together almost 61 years until she passed away in March, 2007.
Although Jim was the happiest when he was at home, he enjoyed the trips he and his wife took to Montauk, New York; Arizona, Germany, Texas, and Alabama.
Jim was a man of simple tastes. It didn't take a lot to make him happy and he thanked God daily for all that he had. He loved God and his family.
Jim enjoyed certain TV shows; Texas Walker Ranger; Lawrence Welk (even the old re-runs) and Family Feud. He particularly liked accordion music and was a great fan of Myron Floren of the Lawrence Welk Show. Jim had a beautiful voice and when he sang, along with his smile and handsome face, he could have been on television himself. Although of English/Irish heritage, Jim enjoyed going to St. George Croatian Lodge #66 for the great food and meeting warm and interesting people. He was called an honorary Croatian and had the hat to prove it.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Storkovich; his infant son, Michael James; and his beloved dogs, Sarge and Lisa Marie. Jim was the oldest of eight children and was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Burton Jr., and Sheldon Fox; a sister, Lavina Lerch; his mother and father-in-law, Dora and Marko Storkovich; and brothers-in-law Mike, Nick, Joe, and George Storkovich, all of whom he loved dearly.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Dolores Diane Fox of Boardman and Deborah Fox of Youngstown, who he lived with for the past eight years and who took such wonderful care of him. He is also survived by his brothers, Jack Fox of Towanda, Pa., and Robert Fox of Rimersburg, Pennsylvania; sisters, Shirley Cole of New Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and Beverly Bross of Florida; nieces and nephews; and his dog, Jimmy.
"Dad, we were so blessed to have you in our lives for so long. Your unconditional love, your strength, and your always being there for us are attributes of a good man and a great father. We love you and you are in our hearts forever."
Friends will be received Thursday, February 26, from 4-7 pm at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland where a Prayer Service will be held at 4:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 27, at 11:00 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Brady's Bend, Pennsylvania. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Brady's Bend.
