Coitsville-James A. DelFlore, Sr., 88, died March 22, 2024, in the comfort of his home.
Born February 20, 1936, in Youngstown, Ohio, he was the son of Albert and Micheline "Micky" (Circella) DelFlore.
He attended North High School and began working at Youngstown Foundry & Machine Shop. He then went on to work at Republic Steel & LTV Steel Mill, retiring in 1981. Jim also owned and operated his own concession business, DelFlore's Fried Dough, a well-known business at the Canfield Fair and other festivals in the area. He began the business at the Lowellville Festival, where he introduced the first fried dough, also known as pizza fritta, in this area.
Jim proudly served in the United States Army in the B Btry 2d Gun Bn 38th Arty from 1960-1961.
He leaves his former wife and his caregiver, Carol Hassey DelFlore of Coitsville; son, James A. DelFlore, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Darlene DelFlore of Coitsville; grandson, Steven (Brenda) Gentile of Poland; brother, Dr. Pat (Linda) DelFlore of Longwood, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Albert DelFlore; mother, Micky King; and sister, Rosemarie DelFlore.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker, 270 N. Main St., Poland, with Pastor Duane Bull officiating. Following the service, guests are invited to a lunch reception at the Becker Family Center.
