James H. Daly, 78, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, September 17th 2016. Born in New Castle, PA on August 29th, 1938, he was preceded in death by his parents John Edward and Helen Fulkerson Daly, and his wife of 37 years, Gilberta Gates Daly.
James lived in Poland Ohio for over 30 years, and was a proud son, brother, husband and father. He is survived by his sister Carol (Ken) Wyman and his children Scott (Kristen) Daly and Susan (Steve) Dipasquo. He was also a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren Dylan, Gavin, and Michael. James served his country in the United States Army in 1953 during the Korean War, where he was pitcher on the Army baseball team. He returned home to become a Full Professor and Professor Emeritus at Youngstown State University (YSU), where he taught in the Williamson School of Business for 37 years. He received a Bachelor of Arts from YSU, obtained an MBA from University of Akron, and a Master of Science in Human Resources from The Ohio State University.
He especially loved teaching, mentoring students, and the many friendships he developed over his lifetime career at YSU. When he was not teaching, he enjoyed golfing, taking trips with his family, coaching kids soccer, and talking to people as he "made his rounds" to the various coffee shops in Poland, Boardman, and Struthers. He always had a kind word, smile, or joke to offer.
