James W. Crelin Jr., 84
YOUNGSTOWN Memorial services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church for James W. Crelin Jr., 84. He passed away Wednesday evening at his home.
Mr. Crelin was born Oct. 4, 1927, in Newark, N.J., the son of James W. and Anna M. Schneider Crelin.
He was a chief dispatcher for the Erie Railroad, Erie Lackawanna and Conrail. He retired in 1986.
He was a veteran who served with the U.S. Army.
Jim was a member of the Westminster Church, where he served as an elder and a deacon, the Men¹s Garden Club of Mahoning Valley and the Chatterbox Club.
He volunteered for both Hospice and the Children¹s Gardening program of Mill Creek Park and tutored at Taft Elementary and the Needles Eye. He also was involved with a Men¹s Cooking Program at the church for the Rescue Mission.
Surviving him are his wife, Rhea Lohr Crump Crelin, whom he married Oct. 21, 2007; son Rev. James W. (Catherine) Crelin III of Surprise, Ariz.; daughter Abby (David) Miller of Parker, Pa.; sister Beatrice Jacqueline (Donald) Hooper of Ocean Grove, N.J.; and four grandchildren, Michael Crelin, Benjamin Crelin, Clarissa Miller and Bryan Miller. He also is survived by two stepdaughters, Deborah Gabse of Boulder, Mont. and Barbara Perry of Dayton; six step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death besides his parents was his first wife, Shirley L.
Minkler Crelin.
Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Davis Becker Funeral Home and on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
