Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Boardman for Jacob J. Scheiderer, 85. He passed away Wednesday evening at Shepherd of the Valley Boardman. Jake was born November 19, 1926 in Union County, Ohio, a son of Jacob and Florence McClurg Scheiderer. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1944 where he played both football and basketball. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a clerk. After the war, he was a salesman for various companies and a plant manager with 7-Up in Savannah, GA and Youngstown, ultimately retiring from Sears and Roebuck in 1989. Other than family, Jake's first love was his church. He served as a council member in various Lutheran churches, including St. Marks in Columbus, Faith in Savannah, GA and Good Hope in Boardman. While at Good Hope, Jake served as a greeter, welcoming members and visitors alike. He also enjoyed participating in FunTimers. Jake was also an avid traveler. He and his wife of 58 years, Anna, have traveled in all fifty states, Mexico, Canada, and Europe. Jake was an avid sports fan, playing basketball well into his 50s. He was instrumental in teaching his children and grandchildren the fundamentals of sports. They had no bigger fan. Jake also enjoyed watching the Indians, Browns and the Buckeyes. Surviving him is his wife the former Anna Ruth Pitsenbarger whom he married June 20, 1954, a daughter Sue (Glenn) Sivak of Boardman, a son David (Beth) Scheiderer of Roanoke, Va, five sisters, Juanita Kaufman of Columbus, Ruth Anderson of Marysville, Joanne O'Connor of Indianapolis, IN, Patricia (Charles) Rossel of Dublin and Beverly (Tony) Lancia of Grove City, OH. Also five grandchildren Megan Miller, Brian Miller, Jacob Scheiderer, Cecily Scheiderer and Sinclair Scheiderer and a great grandchild Austen Miller. Preceding him in death is a sister Dorothy Worthington and a brother Norbert Scheiderer. Friends may call Tuesday 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Davis-Becker Funeral Home and from 10-10:50 a.m. at the church.
