Boardman-Jack L. Jones, 89, died Saturday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Jack was born on June 16, 1924, the son of Jimmy and Edith Jones in Cleveland.
He graduated from Boardman High School in 1942 with a commercial major. After graduation, Jack served three years in the United States Army with the 12thArmored Division in Germany. In 1949, he graduated from Youngstown College with a bachelor's degree in accounting.
Mr. Jones worked 8 years in the cashier's office at Republic Steel, 13 years with Youngstown Sheet and Tube-Lykes Company in the general offices in Boardman doing accounting, and 9 years with Pittsburgh-Des Moines Company at Neville Island, PA doing accounting and auditing their plants in New York, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Maryland, and Texas.
Jack liked all sports and was player manager of the Boardman A.C. and had previously played in the Youngstown Class "AA" League with Pete Brown Sports and Bod the Tailor. He enjoyed mystery books and movies, especially Agatha Christie works. Jack also enjoyed stamp collecting and specialized in 19th century stamps.
He is survived by several cousins, Cynthia C., Jamie, and Jeff.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Chapel, 5400 Market Street in Boardman.
