Lowellville - Jack Esarco, Jr., 82, a life long resident of Lowellville, died Monday morning, February 20, 2012 at his home, surrounded by family.

Mr. Esarco was born February 23, 1929 in Lowellville, a son of Giacomo and Susie DePrano Esarco.

He was a 1948 graduate of Lowellville High School and was an outstanding athlete, playing basketball, football, and running track. Mr. Esarco passed his love and talent for sports down through his children and grandchildren.

After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy serving during the Korean War from August of 1948 to August of 1952. Upon returning home from the service, Mr. Esarco worked as a steel worker for Sharon Steel until their closing. He then took a job as a surveyor for the Mahoning County Engineers and retired after 44 years of service.

He was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. He was a honorary lifetime member of the Mt. Carmel Society, a member of the Lowellville Board of Education, and the American Legion. In his spare time, Jack especially loved family gatherings, gardening, feeding the birds, traveling, and celebrating his proud Italian Heritage by always listening to the Italian hour on the radio and attending local festivals.

His wife, the former Frances Crocetti, whom he married September 22, 1951, died August 7, 1987. He is survived by his three children, Dr. John (Lisa Harding) Esarco of Canfield, Janet (David) Sypert of Boardman, and Dr. David Esarco of Poland; two sisters, Susie (James) Barone and Sandie (Frank) Filisky, both of Lowellville; two brothers, Alex (Ann) Esarco and Anthony Esarco, both of Lowellville; four sisters-in-law, Maxine Esarco, Pauline Crocetti, and Lucille Crocetti, all of Lowellville, and Mary Crocetti of Poland; seven grandchildren, Dr. John (Leslie) Esarco, II, Jarek Esarco, Lauren Esarco, and Jacob Angelo Esarco, all of Canfield, Dr. David (Jessica) Sypert and Michael Sypert, both of Boardman, and David Paul Esarco of Poland.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Esarco; brother-in-law, John Crocetti; and sister-in-law, Mary Jo Esarco.

A prayer service will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Esarco's children would like to express their appreciation and thank the entire family, community, caregivers, Hospice of the Valley and Dr.Wetzel for their wonderful support and care given to Jack.
