Boardman- J. Floyd Wingrove, Jr., 84, of Boardman died Saturday morning, January 15, 2011 at Northside Medical Center.
He was born May 1, 1926 in Ellwood City, PA, a son of J. Floyd, Sr. and Ethel A. Guy Wingrove. He moved to Youngstown at the age of three and to Boardman in 1952. In 1963, he moved to Oakmont, PA then to Yuma, AZ in 1973, and returned to Boardman in 1994.
Mr. Wingrove, a graduate of South High School, attended Youngstown College, Arizona Western College, and the Carnegie Institute of Technology. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
A mechanical engineer, Mr. Wingrove was employed at AETNA Standard Engineering in Youngstown and in Ellwood City, PA. In 1973, he retired as a project engineer at U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh. Mr. Wingrove retired as chief engineer at Houston International in Yuma, AZ in 1990. He was a member of the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers.
Mr. Wingrove formerly was a member and served on the board at Central Christian Church. He was a Knight Templar Mason of the York Rite in Rolling Hill, PA. He was a charter member and board member of the East Yuma Mesa Citizens Association. At the age of twelve, he had a one man watercolor show at the Butler Art Institute.
He is survived by his wife, the former Marylou Farina, whom he married November 20, 1948; cousin, James (Carla) Guy of Warren; sister-in-law, Josephine Cichon Farina of Boardman; seven nephews; and numerous grand nephews and grand nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by cousins, Virginia Guy Nordstrom, Evelyn Burnet Morelli, and Dorothy Wilson Force.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 4996 Market St., Boardman, where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown.
