James Evan Butler, 92
NORTH LIMA Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Boardman for James Evan Butler, 92. He passed away Tuesday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Main Campus.
Mr. Butler was born May 9, 1921, in Youngstown, a son of George E. and Edna Boal Butler.
He was a 1940 graduate of The Rayen School and attended Miami University of Ohio. Evan worked for Lake Park Cemetery as the superintendent, retiring in 1989, after 40 years.
He was a member of the church, the Wick Lodge No. 481, F.&A.M., the Aut Mori Grotto, where he served as Past Monarch, and was a member of it¹s Greeters and Old Timers. Evan was known as ³Freckles² with the Grotto clowns. He also was a member of Boardman Rotary, where he was in charge of it¹s Annual Pancake Festival for many years.
Evan was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps.
His first wife, the former Florence Eileen McQuiston, whom he married Nov.
23, 1947, died Jan. 21, 1996, and his second wife, the former Ruth Wilkes Brewer, whom he married Aug. 14, 1997, died Feb. 12, 2006.
Surviving him is a daughter, Deborah Ann (John) Gavalier of Columbiana; a son, J. Matthew Butler of Greensboro, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Wendy Gavalier, Sarah Gavalier, and Brittany Butler.
Besides his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Mae Currie and Mary Ruth Bowers.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home
in Boardman. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday.
