Irene V. Orf

Irene V. Orf, 85, passed away peacefully, Friday morning, July 12, 2024, at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House. 

Irene, affectionately known as Sissy, was born July 19, 1938 in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of the late John and Irene Veres Hempstead.

A lifelong resident of Struthers, Irene graduated from Struthers High School, Class of 1956. She had once worked with her friends at McKelvey's Department Store, downtown Youngstown. Irene married her husband George H. Orf on March 10, 1957. They made their home in Struthers and Irene happily stepped into the role of homemaker, making a home for her family and cooking and baking. 

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Irene enjoyed being at home and surrounding herself with her family, especially her grandchildren, and her dogs, Riley, and later, Ziggy. 

Irene was married to George for 56 years when he passed away on July 22, 2014. Irene leaves two sons, Charles (Mary Jo) Orf of Polk, Pennsylvania and Kenneth Orf of Lowellville, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Orf of Struthers, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Charles, Jacob, Michael, and Kenny Orf.

In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by her son, Michael Orf; three sisters, Mary Tucker, Kay Thomas, and Dora Frey; and three brothers, Joseph, Ralph, and Charles Hempstead.

Per Irene's wish there will be no services.
