Iola Dee Johnston, age 100 passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Crandall Medical Center, Sebring, Ohio.
Iola was born August 4, 1917 in Youngstown, Ohio, daughter of Earl and Marie Yeager. She was a 1935 graduate of Chaney High School.
Iolas' first job was typing social security numbers for Mahoning County in 1936. She then worked at the Sheet and Tube time office for three years followed by thirteen years at the Ohio Edison Meter department before retiring to dedicate herself to raising her children and caring for elderly relatives.
Iola married her high school sweetheart Paul Foster Johnston September 28, 1939 at Mahoning Avenue Methodist Church. Paul and Iola were married for 67 years until Pauls' death November 3, 2006.
Iola and Paul adopted two children, JoEllen Johnston-Hayes of Plain City, Ohio, and James Lee Johnston of Denver, Colorado. Iola was blessed with one Granddaughter Kimberly Johnston, of Denver Colorado.
Iola was very active in the Ivy League Garden Club and was a member for sixty years. Iola was a longtime member of the Boardman United Methodist Church and the Martha Circle.
Iola was a talented and prolific crafter. She enjoyed the challenge of trying new crafts and especially loved doing floral arrangements, cross stitch, painting, cooking, sewing and home decorating.
Iolas' greatest joy and biggest gift was sharing her time, positive outlook, pragmatic approach, and love of life with her valued friends and family.
A memorial service will be Sunday, May 20 at 3:00PM at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman. Friends and family will be received from 1:00-3:00PM prior to service.
