d. September 15, 2008

"Together Forever" Ina âaA"PatriciaâaA Riddick (nee Heasley), 97, of Poland, Ohio, formerly of Spanish Fort, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord, her loving husband, and sister on September 15, 2008. She was born on June 18, 1911 in Ontario, Canada, a daughter of William and Sarah Jane Heasley. Throughout her 97 plus years, she managed to walk a path that was not only difficult for women of her generation, but also defined âaA"public serviceâaA and also âaA"support of the individual.âaA Mrs. Riddick was a 1932 graduate of Saginaw General Nursing program. Later, Mrs. Riddick and her husband would endow a scholarship at Northwood University, from where she received her Masterâaas Degree in Business Administration, to benefit worthy students. Mrs. Riddick was married to Perry Dewitt Riddick in 1934 after the two became better acquainted while Mrs. Riddick was nursing Mr. Riddick back from the injuries he sustained in an automobile accident. She continued to care for Mr. Riddick and his family for the rest of her life. Their lives, like those of so many others touched by Mrs. Riddick were enriched for the experience. Mrs. Riddick directed her remarkable energy at many tasks throughout her life. She helped her husband build a business and then continued to help for the next 40 years, until the business was sold the day before Mr. Riddick died in 1985. Along the way, Mrs. Riddick served on the Boards of the Home for the Aged in Saginaw, Michigan until its closure in 1999. She also served on the National Boards for the League of Women Voters, the National Garden Club, the Kingâaas Daughters, was director on the Saginaw County Board of Health, and was on the Baldwin County Alabama Board of the League until as late as 2008. Internationally, Mrs. Riddick was also well known and respected as a member of the international cultural exchange organization People to People International and served as a trustee until her death. Mrs. Riddick and her husband were also instrumental in the creation of the Japanese Garden in Saginaw and the formation of the Saginaw County Historical County. Mrs. Riddick was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Perry Dewitt Riddick, and her sister, Gertrude Hamlin. She is survived by her son, Franklin (Patricia) Riddick; her granddaughter, Kristin (Jeffrey) Bodendorfer, all of Poland, Ohio; her two grandsons, Perry Riddick II of Boardman, Ohio and Brook (Nicole) Riddick of Portland, Oregon; and 7 great-grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive, Boardman, Ohio 44512, with Rev. David Joachim officiating. Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland, Ohio 44514. The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Mrs. Riddickâaas name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio 44512.
