Ida Mae Symes, 87 Poland- Ida Mae Symes, 87, of Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home, formerly of Medford Avenue, died Wednesday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Hospital Emergency Room. She was born October 3, 1915, in Lakewood, Ohio a daughter of the late William H. and Mary Ida Hancy Phillips. She attended school in Fairview Park, Ohio, and has been an area resident since 1960. She was a member of the Poland United Methodist Church, where she was very active in many of the Ladies Circles, and most especially helping with church dinners. Mrs. Symes, also volunteered for the American Cancer Society, and was part of the Northside Hospital Guild for many years. Besides her husband Vernon Symes, whom she married June 16, 1936, she is survived by two daughters: Gail and son-in-law Ray Humble of Cleveland, OH; Deborah and son-in-law C. Anthony Harding of Youngstown; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. She is preceded in death by a daughter: Dorothy Kraizel; two sisters: Adeline Reimer; Betty Jane Reiter; and two brothers: Herbert and Lester Phillips. A funeral service will be held 1 PM, Saturday at the Poland United Methodist Church. Friends may call Friday from 4-7PM Friday at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland, and on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Mrs. Symes.
