Howard Johnson

Struthers - Howard C. Johnson, 81, of Struthers, died Sunday evening, February 21, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Boardman.

Howard was born August 6, 1934 in Struthers, a son of Axel and Elizabeth Ruddock Johnson .

A life-long resident of Struthers, Howard was a graduate of Struthers High School, Class of 1952. He worked at the Youngstown Sheet & Tube prior to being drafted into the United States Army where he served in Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He was honorably discharged in August of 1959 and returned to the area. Howard worked as a machinist for Rex Machine and then Packard Electric. He retired from Packard Electric in 1999 after 30 years of service. A trombonist, Howard played in the Struthers High School Marching Band, United States Army Base Field Band Post 423 and the Warren Junior Military Band, formerly known as the VFW Band.

Howard was a member of the former Struthers Presbyterian Church now known as Struthers Parkside Church. He served as Elder and was a member of the Upper Room Sunday School Class. Howard enjoyed wood working and created and designed many beautiful items that will always be treasured.

He leaves his wife, the former Kathryn Boyer, whom he married July 16, 1960; two daughters, Julie L. Johnson of Poland and Beverly A. (Scott) Rine of Canton.

Besides his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca Davis; and one grandson, Axel Charles.

Funeral services will be held Friday, 11:00 AM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home with Pastor James Berkebile officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Haven Memorial Gardens, Canfield.

Friends will be received Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
