Howard Gross, 77 Poland- Howard Gross, 77, of 565 N. Main St. died Saturday evening at Forum Health Northside Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Gross was born February 12, 1928 in Youngstown, a son of LaRue & Ruth Reno Gross. He was a life long area resident. He attended South High School and received his BA in Economics with a minor in History at Youngstown State University. He also attended Akron University Law School. Mr. Gross worked on an ore boat on Lake Erie, and was employed at US Steel Corporation. From 1948 until retirement he worked at Ohio Edison, beginning in the Forestry Section and worked his way up into an office position. From 1959 on was coordinator of Personnel Relations after working as manager claims in the Akron General office of Ohio Edison. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II. Mr. Gross was active in the American Society of Safety Engineers, served on the board for the Lake to River Campfire Girls, was a member of the board of directors of the Mahoning Valley Industrial Management Association, a member of the Personnel Association, Poland Ruritan Club, the Youngstown Area Chamber of Commerce, and was active in the United Way. Mr. Gross enjoyed spending his time away from home at his residence on Lake Erie. Besides his wife, the former Joanne Mansky whom he married May 24, 1976; daughters Linda (Steve) Donahue of Poland; Debbie (Sam) Bush of Orlando Florida; son, Mark (Cynthia) Gross of Pasadena Maryland; niece, Janice Williams of Akron; two nephews; six grandchildren; brother-in-law, John and sister-in-law, Donna Mansky. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a sister Sally Williams; granddaughter Aimee Donahue and nephews Richard Williams and Michael Mansky. Funeral Services were held Wednesday at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may go to the donorâa�a��s favorite charity.
