Services will be held Monday, 11:00 am at Davis-Becker Funeral Home for Hilda "Tillie" C. Sherman. She passed away Thursday morning at Salem Community Hospital.

Mrs. Sherman was born Jan. 5, 1931 in Beallsville, Ohio, a daughter of Emory and Essie (Bilyeu) Fraley. She had been employed at Kaufman's Department Store for 23 years, retiring in 1994.

She was a member of the Executive Board of Mahoning Valley Boy Scouts of America, and their Council Training Committee, she also served as a den mother. She was a member of Boardman United Methodist Church and had taught Sunday school and bible school for 12 years. She served as the Marshal for the Memorial Day Parade. Resident Chairman for the Cancer Society and a member of their Executive Board. She was a Girl Scout Leader and Junior Counselor, and a member of Order of Eastern Star #278.
In 1972 she was awarded the Silver Fawn from Mahoning County BSA though the National Court of Honor (one of scouting's highest honors).

Her husband Howard E. Sherman whom she married Aug. 9, 1975 died Dec. 24, 1986.

Surviving her are her children, a son Rodney (Mary) Emerson of Poland and two daughters, Deborah (James) Frost of New Waterford, and Holly LaVolpa of Boardman. Five grandchildren Anthony LaVolpa, Emily (Steve) Shurtleff, Chelsea (Dave) Kusky, Jarod (Bobbie) Emerson and J. T. Swagger, Jr. Three great grandchildren, Garrison James, Grace Leigh and Dillon James. A sister, Carol Kesner of Wooster. Also, her step children Mark Steve, and Jennifer Sherman.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband are three brothers Richard, Nelson and Edison Fraley, and three sisters Nada Grant, Lenette Fraley, and Dema Schultz.

Friends may call Sunday from 1-4:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10- 10:45 a.m. at the Funeral Home.
