Poland - Henry L."Chook" Demeny, 76, of College St. in Poland died October 30, 2009 at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Mr. Demeny was born November 10, 1932 in Poland, a son of Frank and Julia Moner Demeny, and was a life area resident. Many knew him as "Chook", a child hood nickname, derived from calling chickens while working on the family farm.
Mr. Demeny worked as a truck driver for over 30 years, independently with M & M Trucking out of Bessemer, then at Mitchell Trucking and T.C. Trucking.
He was a member of the Bessemer Croatian Club, the Teamsters Local 261 and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. With his passion in cars and racing, he built cars with his nephew, Frank "Buzzy" Day.
He is survived by one daughter, Jill Lynn Demeny of New Orleans, LA; and one son, Dave Henry (Lin Shi) Demeny of Centreville, VA.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Martha Day, Helen Bailey, Wilma Loftus, Dolly Nagel and Annabelle Demeny; and one brother, Arthur "Muzzy" Demeny.
Graveside services will be held Friday at noon at the Poland Riverside Cemetery.
