Helen Rush

Youngstown-There will be a private funeral service and no calling hours per the wishes of Helen Rush, 87, who passed away peacefully Saturday evening, December 3, 2016, at her home with her family by her side.

Helen was born on May 14, 1929 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Peter and Stella Mastaler.

A lifelong resident of Youngstown, she was a graduate of East High School and was a dedicated homemaker. She will always be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother. Her happiest times were those spent with her family.

Helen loved her flowers and watching her birds at the bird feeders. She was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church.

Helen married the love of her life, James J. Rush, in July of 1950, and he preceded her in death in April of 2012. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage together.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her two daughters, Kathy (Rob) Colonna of Boardman and Sue (John) Petro of Berlin Center; her four grandsons, who she adored, Bryan (Deanna) Colonna of Seven Fields, PA, Shawn (Brittaney) Colonna of Pittsburgh, John Petro of Berlin Center, and Joe Petro of Charleston, SC; and one great-grandson, Aiden Colonna.

The family would like to express their gratitude to their wonderful caregivers, Kathy Turney, who took care of their mom like she was her own, and Vicky Beal, who was always there when they needed her. Also a special thank you to Dr. Russell Morrison III and his wonderful staff at Midlothian Medical Center for taking such great care of Helen and treating her like family. Helen loved all of you.
