Poland - Helen E. McAfee, of Poland, died Friday, May 9, 2008. Mrs. McAfee was born in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Hilda Olson and Charles E. Baun. As a realtor for twelve years associated with Del Realty, she was honored as Realtor of the Year in 1976 by the Youngstown Area of Realtors. She was one of the first seven realtors of the Board to earn the G.R.I designation presented by the President of Youngstown State University. Mrs. McAfee was a 53 year member of Poland Presbyterian Church, serving as both a Deacon and Elder. She also was a member of the Friendship Circle, Mariners, and the Samaritans. She was an accredited National Master Flower Show Judge and a member and former Treasurer of the Garden Forum of the Greater Youngstown area. She was also a member of the Poland Garden Club. Mrs.McAfee was a former Girl Scout Leader for eleven years and a member of the Friends of Poland Library and Poland Historical Society. She also loved playing bridge. Her first husband, John T. Scully, passed away in 1969. On June 20, 1980, she married John N. McAfee, who passed away November 5, 1996. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn (John) Vevurka of Englewood, Colorado; and a granddaughter, Leigh (Keenan) Gates of Denver, Colorado. Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. McAfee was preceded in death by two brothers, C. Edward (Paula) Baun of Columbus and C. Richard (Nancy) Baun of Lady Lake, Florida. She is much loved by her family and many friends. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Poland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gerald Fennell officiating. Interment will follow in Poland Riverside Cemetery. Friends will be received Monday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. McAfee's name to the Poland Presbyterian Church, 2 Poland Manor, Poland, Ohio 44514, which is to be used to maintain the church's community room.
