New Bedford- Helen Ruth Jacobs, 95, of Assumption Village, formerly of New Bedford, died Wednesday, August 28, at the nursing home.
Helen was born June 28, 1918 in Youngstown, a daughter of Andrew and Mary Kubyko Kushnir. She lived in New Bedford until moving to New Middletown and then to Assumption a few years ago.
A graduate of Villa Marie High School, Helen's joy in life was making a home for her husband and children. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and loved music and played the piano beautifully. She looked forward to spending time at their cabin in Bell Town, PA and their annual trips to Myrtle Beach.
Her husband, Michael Jacobs, whom she married May 17, 1941, died November 25, 2005. She leaves two daughters, Carole (Bernie) Guyon and Linda Krueger both of Cary, NC; two sons, Robert (Sylvia) Jacobs of New Middletown and David (Karen) Jacobs of Seattle, WA; two sisters, Madeline O'Neill of San Francisco, CA, Charlotte Gruenwald of New Bedford, PA; nine grandchildren, Mark Jacobs, Holly Dominguez, Erik Jacobs, Heidi Steadman, Laurel Jacobs, Chelsey Guyan, Nathan Guyan, Sarah Krueger, and Andrew Krueger; and eight great-grandchildren, Ethan, Sophie, Aidan, Dillon, Maya, Matthew, Jessica, and Andrew.
Besides her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by one sister, Gertrude Michaelson and one brother, Steven Kushnir.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, 10:30 AM at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church, New Bedford, PA., with Rev. Downs officiating. Interment will follow at the St. James Cemetery, New Bedford.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the time of the prayer service at 9:45 AM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers.
