Struthers - Helen B. Colick Gavran, 90, died early Monday morning, July 27, 2015 at her home with her family by her side, after an extended illness.
Helen was born April 12, 1925 in Carbon, PA, a daughter of Nick and Anna Belish Colick. She was raised in Carbon and moved to Struthers in 1970.
Mrs. Gavran worked in the accounting department for Ward Baking Company for 8 years and then for Gold Cross Ambulance, retiring in 1992 after 14 years of service.
Helen was a longtime former member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers and its Infant Jesus of Prague Guild and a current member of Holy Family Parish in Poland. She was also a member of the VFW Post No. 3538 Ladies Auxiliary, the Mahoning Valley Button Box Club, and the Slovenian Lodge No. 277.
Mrs. Gavran enjoyed baking and traveling over the years with her husband.
Her husband, John "Sheriff" Gavran, whom she married April 11, 1970, preceded her in death on January 15, 2005. Helen is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Agnes Hill and three brothers, John, Joseph, and Frank Colick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at noon at Holy Family Parish, 2729 Center Rd., Poland. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Lowellville.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 11-11:45 a.m. at the church, prior to the Mass.
