Struthers- Helen M. Flauto, 96, of Struthers, died early Monday morning, July 6, 2015 at The Assumption Village.
Helen was born October 16, 1918 in Struthers, a daughter of James and Josephine Spadaro Paris. She was a life-long resident of Struthers.
She was a graduate of Struthers High School and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. Helen worked as a registered nurse for ten years for St. Elizabeth Health Center and then for Midlothian Medical Center for 24 years, retiring in 1994.
Helen was a beautiful seamstress and made clothing for everyone. She loved to cook and host dinner for family and friends, canning fruits and vegetable and making apple pie. She loved to tend to her flower and vegetable gardens. Together with her husband they cherished their Italian Heritage, celebrating Christmas Eve, Carnivale on Fat Tuesday and Super Bowl Parties. Helen would make a party with one person visiting her.
She was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers where she volunteered at the festival as a nurse and helping out her family at the fried dough booth.
Her husband, Arthur N. Flauto Sr., whom she married May 24, 1939, preceded her in death on May 28, 1999. Helen is survived by her daughter, Teresanne "Terri" (Dennis) Morris of Poland; son, Christopher (Donna) Flauto of Poland; sister, Sr. Gertrude Paris of Columbiana; five grandchildren, Dr. John (Lisa) Flauto of Boardman, Drs' Ron (Angie) Flauto of Bath, Michael (Dawn) Bolevich of Struthers, Gary (Lauren) Flauto of Canfield, and Jillian Flauto of Dublin; thirteen great-grandchildren and one on the way; and daughter-in-law, Donna Mae Flauto.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by two sons, infant Vincent Flauto and Arthur N. Flauto Jr.,; sister, Rose Perry; two brothers, Joseph and Paul Paris; and a grandson, Richard Flauto.
A prayer service will be held Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
