Helen Theresa Cipkala, 91
Boardman
Helen Theresa Cipkala, 91 passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday October 9, 2014, at Shepherd of the Valley -Boardman, following a blessed life.
Helen was born on July 23, 1923 in Struthers, a daughter of Stephen and Helen (Olenyk) Sedlacko. She was the youngest of 9 children. She was married to Clarence Cipkala on October 5, 1946.
She was a graduate of Struthers High School in 1941 and a member of the Drill Team. She also attended Youngstown College and worked for a short time at Ward Baking Company in Youngstown before starting her family, which meant everything to her and made her very proud. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Struthers where she married in 1946. Then she moved and joined St. Matthias Church, and then joined Our Lady of the Lake when she moved to Columbia, SC.
Helen lived in Columbia for 10 good years before returning to Boardman. She loved to cook and bake especially Slovak food. She and her husband volunteered for many years at the Assumption Nursing Home delivering ice cream to the residents. Helen loved to sing, always had a positive attitude and great sense of humor. Many years ago she was given the nickname "Happy Helen".
Helen leaves her 6 children, John (Sue) Cipkala of Columbus, Elaine (Joe) Pipoly of Boardman, Janet (Gerald) Cipkala-Gaffin of Pittsburgh, Margie (John) Wanchick of Columbus, Clancy Cipkala of Columbia, SC, Mary Jo (Mark) Rumancik of Fort Wayne, IN. She also leaves her 13 grandchildren; Doug Cipkala, Geoff Cipkala, Michael (Katie) Cipkala, Amanda (Brad) Smith, Haley Cipkala, Colton Cipkala, Josh Cipkala-Gaffin, Justin Cipkala-Gaffin, Jenna Cipkala-Gaffin, Weston Wanchick, Scott Rumancik, Brad Rumancik and Leah Rumancik. She also leaves 2 great grandchildren Brian Cipkala and Nicholas Cipkala.
Helen is preceded in death by her loving husband after 57 years of marriage, her parents and 8 siblings, John Sedlacko, Ann Pager, Mary Fetsko, Kathryn Rodgers, Sister Margaret Mary Sedlacko, Joseph Sedlacko, Andrew Sedley and Stephen Sedlacko.
Services will be held Nov. 28, 2014 at Our Lady of the Lake in Chapin, SC.
The family wants to express their appreciation to the entire staff of Shepherd of the Valley for all their wonderful care, support and kindness shown to Helen.
It is requested that material tributes take the form of contributions to the Activities Department at Shepherd of the Valley, 7148 West Blvd. Boardman, OH 44512.
Arrangements are being handled by Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman.
