Poland - Helen Margaret Bayus, 85, formerly of Applewood Acres in Boardman where she lived for 50 years, died late Tuesday evening at Hampton Woods Nursing Home of complications due to pneumonia.
Helen was born September 26, 1926 in Youngstown, a daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth Halase Kanocz.
She worked as an assistant buyer at Strouss Department Store and also helped her husband, Nick, in his residential homebuilding business with interior design.
Mrs. Bayus, who was proud of her Hungarian Heritage and was able to speak fluent Hungarian, was a member of the former American Hungarian Reformed Church, now the Rockview Christian Church. She was also a member of the Applewood Acres Golf and Bowling League and a women's 500 card club.
Her husband, Nick Bayus, whom she married Oct.1947, died Oct.5, 2005. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Bayus of Gaithersburg, MD; two sons, Mark (Lilly) Bayus of Tucson, AZ and Nick (Ginny) Bayus of Boise, ID; three grandchildren, Marisa Bayus, Carina Bayus, and Ryan (Mandy) Freeland; two great-grandchildren, Ryan Freeland Jr. and Christian Freeland; several nieces and nephews; and her "angel" daughters, Carol, Sharyn, Nancy, and Cheryl.
Besides her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Youngross; a brother, Stephen Kanocz; and a niece, Stephanie Greig.
Services will be held Monday 11AM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland with Pastor George Dunbar officiating. Entombment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery.
Friends will be received Sunday from 5-8PM and Monday from 10-10:45AM at the funeral home.
