Haven R. Grover

January 22, 1946 — May 3, 2018

Haven R. Grover passed away peacefully at his home Thursday morning, May 3rd, 2018.

Hank was born in Los Angeles, CA, to Donald and Betty Nicolls Grover. He had an old school upbringing, graduating from Struthers High School in 1964. He liked to refer to himself as a “Struthers brother.” He was also a graduate of Youngstown State University.

Starting out as a paper boy, Hank worked 21 different jobs before beginning his surveying career as a rodman. Hank went on to become a licensed surveyor and was highly respected for his integrity, professionalism, and willingness to share his knowledge.

He established the surveying and engineering firms of Western Reserve Land Consultants, Inc., in 1993 and WRLC, LLC, as his semi-retirement company in 2008. Throughout his career, he surveyed and supervised the surveying of thousands of projects and was proud to mentor many employees that went on to become licensed professionals. Hank retired in May 2017.

He proudly served on the Poland Township Board of Zoning Appeals and as Treasurer of the Thomas Hutchins Chapter of the Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio.

Hank was most proud to have raised three healthy boys that all graduated from college and became strong and independent young men. He always stepped up to coach his sons’ soccer and baseball teams and later served as a volunteer referee for Poland Youth Soccer.

Hank loved his old house in Poland Township that he was able to work on for thirty years, working around the yard and being a steward of the land. Hank loved spending time with his extended family, especially the cousin’s reunions in Colorado and the annual Nicolls’ family Thanksgiving Bingo and Turkey Bowl. In his retirement, Hank was looking forward to golfing, traveling, and trout fishing in America.

Hank leaves his wife, the former Monica Burns, whom he married October 1, 1999; sons, Jacob William of Washington, DC, Dakota James of Willoughby, and Haven Jeffrey of Kent; sisters, Gayle (Jim) Ridge of Poland and Janice (Gary) Blucker of Struthers; an uncle, Donald Nicolls of New Castle; and an aunt, Mary Nicolls of Columbus. In addition to his parents, Hank was preceded in death by brothers, Rick and Gary Grover.

A memorial service celebrating Hank’s life will be held at Davis Becker in Boardman on Monday, May 7th. Friends and family will be received Monday from to 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. with a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. and a reception to follow.

Hank's family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the compassionate care provided by Hospice of the Valley, Dr. Medford Mashburn, his nurse Tracey, and his aide Jim.
