Harry "Dutch" Meyer

Struthers- Harry Joseph "Dutch" Meyer, 83, died on Monday, September 14, 2015 in Hospice of the Valley Hospice House. He was born on May 25, 1932 in Youngstown, to the late, Harry Meyer and Josephine Cline Meyer Rich.

He graduated from East High School in the last January class of 1951. He was employed with Republic Steel for 34 years as a scarfer inspector in the 40" Mill, retiring in 1984.

Dutch married Dorothy Mirth on March 28, 1953. He was a Korean War veteran where he received the Combat Infantry Badge and the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star.

He was Caddy Master at the Tippecanoe Country Club from 1984-1993 and worked at Master Golf from 1995-2009. He was an avid golfer and had three holes-in-one. One of his biggest events was when he played in a Pro-Am tournament at Ashtabula Country Club with George Bellino and John Hodus and they won 1st place.

Dutch formerly belonged to the YMCA, the Protestant Men's Golf League and bowled for Local #1331. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Struthers. He made dozens of pizzells every year for the ladies to sell at their fund raiser. They called him the "Pizzella Man."

Dutch loved sports, with his favorite teams being the Detroit Lions, the San Francisco 49ers, the NY Yankees and the Boston Celtics. He enjoyed taking his wife to Mountaineer Park on Monday afternoons to watch the horses run.

Dutch had a great personality and a way of making people laugh. He was loved by all and will be deeply missed.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Meyer; his son, Harry Jr. (Kathy) Meyer of Struthers, daughter Linda (Mike Bosela) Meyer of Youngstown, daughter Carol (Paul) Meyer Parteleno of Struthers and son, Phillip (Danielle) Meyer of Canfield; grandchildren, Loraine Meyer of Pittsburgh, Harry Meyer III of Struthers, Haley and Gabrielle Meyer of Canfield, Lena Parteleno of Struthers and Shane McCambridge of Boardman; great grandchildren, Penelope, Arlo and Andie; step brother, Angelo Rich; brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Alice Kopp; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father Frank Rich; step-brother, Meally Rich and step-sister Theresa Crater.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 3pm at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St. Poland, with Pastor Paul Burgeson officiating. Visitation will be prior to the services from 1:00-2:45pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
