Poland - Harry Foster Hinton, 88, of Poland, died July 17, 2009 at the Austinwoods Nursing Center.
Mr. Hinton was born October 9, 1920 in Youngstown, a son of the late Foster and Elsie Smith Hinton.
He was a 1939 graduate of South High School. Mr. Hinton was inducted into the United States Army in 1942 serving during World War II in the 110th Quartermaster Bakery and was honorably discharged in 1945. After the war, Mr. Hinton worked as a journeyman machinist for McKay Machine and Wean United, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the Old Springfield United Church of Christ, where he was an elder and past financial secretary. Mr. Hinton was a member of the East Palestine Lodge No. 417 F & AM and a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite, a member of the Aut Mori Grotto and its Circus Committee, the Chatterbox Club, and a past member of the Volunteer Fire Department of New Middletown. He also enjoyed reading and traveling.
His wife, the former Jane Katherine Hinton, whom he married September 8, 1945, died December 27, 2005. He leaves his three daughters, Sandra (Gerald) Ohlin of New Middletown, Marilyn (David) Fitz-Patrick of Austintown, and Debbie (Joe) Maruskin of Canfield; 7 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Old Springfield United Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Boardman.
Family and friends will be received Sunday from 5-8 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland and Monday from 9:30-10:15 a.m. at the church. A Masonic service will be held Sunday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
