Youngstown - Harold Samuel Luther, Jr., 75, a Struthers native, having lived in Texas and Arizona for years and returning to Youngstown for the remainder of his life, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Cleveland Clinic.
Harold, known by his family and friends as "Sam," was born January 27, 1949 in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of the late Harold S. Luther, Sr. and Mary (Lissi) Luther-Lancaster.
He graduated from Struthers High School in 1967 and enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Sam was a steelworker for Youngstown Sheet & Tube in Youngstown and the Hughes Corporation in Texas. He later worked for Maricopa General Hospital in Arizona before returning to the Mahoning Valley, working for Syro Steel in Girard before retiring.
Sam loved music, he was an avid musician, he was gifted and could play several musical instruments. He was known as a bass player and played in several local bands in the area. He worked for The 31 Club in Youngstown as well.
Sam is survived by his four sisters, Marsha A. (William) Snyder of Ravenna, OH, Joan M. (Frank) Tombo of Poland, OH, Charlotte L. Palmer of Las Vegas, NV, Terry E. (David) Bishop of Struthers, OH; six nieces, Jill (Paul) Glosser, Kelly A. (Mark) Minehart, Brandi (Brian) Hermiller, Lisa (David) Schweigart, Samatha (Eric) Ruxer, and Amanda K. Lovell; two nephews, Luke (Alexandra "Alex") Snyder and Matthew (Shea) Bishop; and many great-nieces and great-nephews, and good friends.
Besides his father, Harold, Sr. and his mother, Mary Luther-Lancaster, Sam was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Reggie Palmer.
Per Sam's request, there will be no calling hours or services at this time.
The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Angels For Animals, 4750 W. South Range Road, Canfield, OH 44406 in memory of Sam.
Arrangements are being handled by Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring Street in Struthers.
The family would like to recognize and thank Sam's niece, Kelly Minehart for the love, care, and support that she gave to Sam through the years.
