Harold E. Rupert

New Middletown - Harold E. Rupert, 83, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 12, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Harold was born October 1, 1930 in New Springfield, a son of the late Clarance and Edna (Wolfgang) Rupert.

Harold was a 1950 graduate of New Springfield Local High School. In 1951 he enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a second class mechanist mate on the USS Stoddard, serving in the Mediterranean and outside Cuba providing plane guard duty for aircraft carriers.

After returning from the Navy, Harold worked at Welsh Motors as a mechanic for one year. He then worked as an assistant manager for Sinclair Service Station on the Ohio Turnpike for nine years and then as a mechanic for May Chevrolet for three years. Harold retired from General Motors in July 1992 after 25 years of service.

Harold was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in New Middletown. He enjoyed gardening, flowers, football and basketball and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns.

Harold's first wife of 35 years, the former Shirley Ann Black, whom he married September 4, 1955, died February 17, 1990. He leaves to mourn his memory, his loving wife of just 22 years, the former Beverly Fryer Davison, whom he married November 15, 1991; five children, Victoria (Don) Telego, Kent (Jayne) Rupert, Kimberly McMurray and Shelly Remner all of New Springfield, and Marshall (Christine) Rupert of Canfield; two step-children, Diane (Dennis) Reda of Youngstown and Gary (Lori) Davison of Mechanicsburg, PA; 12 grandchildren, Donald Telego, Christine (Joshua) Wiery, Jeremy Telego, Abby (Nick) Bruno, Becky (Douglas) Orr, Adam (Katie) McMurray, Ian McMurray, Morgan McMurray, Jordan Peshek, Taylor Remner, Ashley Rupert and Addison Rupert; two step-grandchildren, John and Matthew Davison; six great-grandchildren Alexander and Lillian Telego, Jacob Weiry, Travis McMurray and Benjamin Bruno, Issac Orr; and two nieces and ten nephews.

Besides his parents and first wife, Harold was preceded in death by a sister, Leona Spickler; step-granddaughter, Meghan Catherine Davison; and one great-grandson, Elijah McMurray.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, 11:00 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Larry Klinker officiating. Interment will follow at the New Springfield Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received Friday from 4-7 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland and Saturday from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at the church.
