H. Bruce Kalmer 78, of Poland died Saturday morning July 29, 2017 at his home. He was born February 10, 1939 in Youngstown, Ohio to Ray and Ruth (Nichols) Kalmer and lived most of his life in the area.
Bruce, was a 1957 graduate of Poland Seminary High School and had attended Youngstown College. He had been one of the partners of the Perkins Family Restaurant in Poland for many years, and was retired from U.S. Food Service.
He was a lifelong member of Poland United Methodist Church, active in Men’s Prayer Fellowship and his Sunday school class. Bruce was passionate about volunteer work and “paying it forward”, hunting, fishing, cooking, traveling and walking hand-in-hand with his darling Beverly. Bruce will be remembered most as a devoted husband, father and grandfather and friend.
Bruce leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 57 years, Beverly ( Zelinka ) Kalmer, whom he married in 1960; his daughter, Jennylynn Kalmer and partner, Mary Mead of Colchester, Vt. grandchildren, Addison, Faith , Jordan and Kayden ; His son, Ray Bruce and wife, Lesley Kalmer of York, Pa., and granddaughter, Gwynevere. He also leaves many beloved nieces, nephews and their families; cousins; brother-in-law, David Caulkins; countless close friends, neighbors, and a special dog, Charlie.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ilene Caulkins.
A memorial service celebrating Bruce’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday August 4, 2017 at the Poland United Methodist Church, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow the services at the church.
